Granity School
Granity School is set in one of the most picturesque locations in, 26 kms north of Westport on the West Coast, South Island of Aotearoa. We are a full primary school (years 0-8) nestled between the beautiful native bush and the sea, with a sub-tropical climate. The roll at Granity Kura fluctuates between 25-30 students coming from the six small townships of Seddonville, Mokihinui, Hector, Ngakawau, Birchfield and Waimangaroa, as well as Granity itself. The school is situated on 2.3 hectares of land and the grounds include an adventure playground, asphalt court, playing fields and a fabulous view of the magnificent Tasman sea on our boundary with many dolphin sightings playing in the waves.
Our classrooms are north facing creating bright sunny learning environments. There is a play centre facility located on the western end of the school building.

Granity School developed its curriculum delivery in line with the requirements of the New Zealand Curriculum. These documents acknowledge the foundational learning of literacy and numeracy, they are conceptually based and built on existing knowledge at each level and promote integrated learning in all curriculum areas.
Granity School promotes the acceptance of self-responsibility as a learner, problem-solving, perseverance, resilience and independent thinking to encourage children to be happy and prepared for the world. Our vision statement is “Empowering Curious Minds” and this is reflected in all delivery of our varied and diverse curriculum as are our values of Respect, Relationships, Resilience and Sustainability. Granity Kura is part of the Buller Kahui Ako and we are an active participant in the Enviroschools programme.
The unique educational offering we have at Granity includes not only the core fundamentals of the NZ curriculum but numerous opportunities that are associated with and abound in the stunning location we are fortunate to be in, the smaller class sizes, great teachers and very special character of our lovely rural Kura.
